An interesting note is that when the Americans and others forced the elected president, Jean-Bertrand Aristide to leave the country in February 2004, the 1,000 “peacekeeping” US Marines used Haiti’s first and only public medical school in Port-au-Prince as their headquarters, turning that medical complex into a military complex. The school had only been dedicated two months earlier, and it was another six years before it was restored to its original peaceful purpose. 237. A “close relative” is any individual related to a person by blood, marriage, or adoption who is no more than three generations removed from that person or from a common ancestor with that person. For example, your mother’s first cousin is your close relative for purposes of the Regulations, because you are both no more than three generations removed from your great-grandparents, who are the ancestors you have in common. Similarly, your husband’s great-grandson is your close relative, because he is no more than three generations removed from your husband. However, your daughter’s father-in-law is not your close relative, because you have no common ancestor. See § 515.339.
